Valley of Flowers – where adventure meets paradise in bloom
The Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of India’s most breathtaking national parks, located in the North Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Nestled at an elevation of 3,600 meters, this enchanting valley is framed by icy Himalayan peaks and is celebrated worldwide for its vibrant alpine meadows, rare floral diversity, and unmatched natural beauty.
For centuries, the valley lay hidden beneath snow, bursting into life each summer as melting ice revealed a kaleidoscope of colors. Every monsoon, the valley transforms into a painter’s canvas, with blooming flowers carpeting the landscape in hues that change with the passing weeks. In 1931, British mountaineer and botanist Frank Smythe stumbled upon this hidden paradise and later authored the book “The Valley of Flowers”, which brought global attention to its magical beauty. The area was declared a national park in 1982 and recognized as a World Heritage Site for its unique ecological significance.
Legends among the locals suggest the valley is inhabited by fairies, adding to its mythical charm. The valley is home to rare and iconic species such as the Brahma Kamal, Blue Poppy, and Cobra Lily, making it a paradise for botanists, nature enthusiasts, and trekkers alike.
Best Time to Visit:
The Valley of Flowers is open only from July to September, when the blooms are at their peak. Entry is permitted between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and visitors must exit before 5:00 PM. For the rest of the year, heavy snowfall renders the valley inaccessible.
🔆 Highlights:
💡 Tip: Start early from Rishikesh to avoid hill traffic and reach Govind Ghat comfortably before dark.
The Valley of Flowers adventure begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh to Govind Ghat. The route winds along the sacred Alaknanda River, passing through some of Uttarakhand’s most famous confluences — Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Joshimath. Each town is steeped in mythology and offers spectacular views of river valleys and Himalayan landscapes.
Though long, the drive is filled with breathtaking scenery — deep gorges, pine-clad mountains, and glimpses of snow-capped peaks. By late evening, you’ll reach Govind Ghat (6,300 ft.), the base point for both the Valley of Flowers Trek and the Hemkund Sahib Yatra. Check into your guest house, enjoy a hearty dinner, and rest well before the trek begins.
🍲 Meals: Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Homestay (on a triple or quad sharing basis)
🔆 Highlights:
💡 Tip: Carry a raincoat/poncho—this stretch often receives showers during the monsoon. Trek at a steady pace to conserve energy for the next day.
After breakfast at Govind Ghat, take a short 4 km scenic drive to Poolna, the trek starting point. From here, begin your 9 km trek along the Pushpawati River to reach Ghangaria, the base camp for both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib.
The trail is well-paved and lined with pine forests, waterfalls, and vibrant wildflowers. You’ll pass tea stalls and small dhabas where you can take breaks. The sound of the river and views of snow-capped peaks accompany you throughout. Ponies and porters are also available for those who need assistance.
By afternoon, you’ll arrive at Ghangaria (2,926 m / 9,600 ft.), a small settlement buzzing with trekkers and pilgrims. Rest well here, as tomorrow you’ll head into the Valley of Flowers.
🍲 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Hotel in Ghangaria (triple/quad sharing basis)
🔆 Highlights:
💡 Tip: Entry to the Valley is permitted only between 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Exit by 5:00 PM. Starting early ensures you have ample time inside.
Leave Ghangaria early (around 6:00 AM) to make the most of your day in the Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trek from Ghangaria to the valley spans about 4–5 km one way, following a well-defined trail that gently ascends through scenic landscapes. The journey begins through dense forests, offering cool shade and serenity, before opening into a magical expanse of alpine meadows.
On the way, you’ll cross sparkling streams and cascading waterfalls, adding to the charm of the route. Gradually, the trail bursts into vibrant patches of wildflowers, changing colors with every step.
Entering the Valley of Flowers feels like stepping into a paradise of colors and tranquility. During the monsoon, the entire valley transforms into a lush carpet of orchids, poppies, primulas, Brahma Kamal, Blue Poppy, and many other rare Himalayan blooms. The breathtaking scenery is further enhanced by snow-capped Himalayan peaks, meadows stretching endlessly, and the Pushpawati River gracefully flowing through the valley.
Spend a few hours soaking in this ethereal beauty, capturing photographs, and simply being immersed in nature’s finest creation. By afternoon, retrace your steps back to Ghangaria for an overnight stay.
🍲 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Hotel in Ghangaria (triple/quad sharing basis)
🔆 Highlights:
💡 Tip: Carry warm layers, as temperatures at Hemkund can drop near freezing even in summer. Trek at a steady pace to avoid altitude fatigue.
This is the toughest but most rewarding day of the Valley of Flowers trek. Start your climb early in the morning, as the steep ascent to Hemkund Sahib, one of the world’s highest Gurudwaras, can take 4–5 hours. The path is well-paved but relentlessly steep, with more than 1,100 m of elevation gain in just 6 km.
As you ascend, the landscape changes dramatically—from pine and rhododendron forests to alpine pastures filled with rare Himalayan flowers like Brahma Kamal, the state flower of Uttarakhand, which blooms abundantly in this region. The crisp mountain air and cascading streams en route keep your spirits high despite the challenging climb.
Finally, you’ll reach Hemkund Sahib (4,300 m / 14,107 ft.), a revered Sikh shrine surrounded by seven snow-clad peaks. Next to it lies the pristine Hemkund Lake, fed by glaciers and known for its crystal-clear, icy waters. Pilgrims often take a dip in the sacred lake despite the freezing temperature, believing in its spiritual significance.
After spending time in this divine setting, begin your descent back to Ghangaria. The return journey takes 3–4 hours and requires steady footing on the steep slopes.
🍲 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Hotel in Ghangaria (triple/quad sharing basis)
🔆 Highlights:
💡 Tip: Start early from Ghangaria to reach Joshimath by evening. If you have travel plans ahead, keep buffer time in case of road delays due to landslides or rain.
Your final day begins with a gradual descent from Ghangaria along the same trail you took earlier. The 9 km trek to Poolna takes about 4 hours and is mostly downhill, passing through forests, waterfalls, and the scenic banks of the Pushpawati and Lakshman Ganga rivers. The route is easier compared to previous days but requires caution on the stone-paved paths, which may be slippery after rain.
At Poolna (7,200 ft.), vehicles will be waiting to drive you back. A short drive first brings you to Govindghat (6,300 ft.), the gateway to both Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. From there, continue onward to Joshimath (6,150 ft.), a bustling Himalayan town and a hub for trekkers heading towards Badrinath, Auli, and other high-altitude expeditions.
Arrive in Joshimath by late afternoon or evening, where you can finally relax, celebrate the completion of your trek, and enjoy the comforts of town life after days in the wilderness.
🍲 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
🛏️ Stay: Guest House / Hotel in Joshimath (triple/quad sharing basis)

• Shoes (worth Rs. 6,999)
• Insulated Jackets (-10° C) (worth Rs. 3,299)
• Trekking Poles (worth Rs. 1,299)
This ensures every adventurer, whether first-time or experienced, can enjoy the mountains without the financial burden of buying expensive gear. It's trekking made accessible, safe, and seamless.
1. Gear Built for the Mountains
Our high-performance tents and sleeping bags are engineered for extreme alpine conditions.
• Sleeping Bags: Designed to endure temperatures as low as -5°C to -20°C
• Tents: Provide additional insulation and wind protection for a warm, secure rest each night
We are always prepared for unpredictable mountain weather — and encourage trekkers to share any safety concerns with our team for quick support.
2. Health Monitoring: Daily Oxygen & Pulse Checks
Your well-being is our priority. For high-altitude treks, we conduct daily oxygen saturation and pulse monitoring (as needed) before and during the trek.
This proactive step helps us:
• Detect early signs of altitude sickness
• Make informed decisions for your safety
• Ensure every trekker remains fit and comfortable throughout the journey
3. Emergency Support & Medical Backup
Altitude affects everyone differently. Our guides are equipped with portable oxygen cylinders and essential first-aid medicines for immediate use in case of altitude-related symptoms.
Tip for trekkers: Stay physically prepared — activities like running, cycling, and swimming greatly improve endurance at high altitudes.
In case of emergencies or injuries, stretchers are available at all campsites, ensuring a safe and swift evacuation to base camp for further care.
Cell networks can be unreliable in the mountains. To bridge the gap, our camps and guides stay connected via a dedicated radio communication system, ensuring quick response in cases of bad weather, missing items, or medical needs.
4. Technical Support on Snowy Slopes
For treks involving snow-covered or technically challenging terrain, our trained technical team is deployed to assist. They ensure:

Where others may compromise, we never do. Beyond safety, our second-most important promise is attention to the little things. Whether it’s perfectly timed meals, well-planned acclimatization, or last-minute gear support — we sweat the small stuff so you don’t have to.
ur guides are more than just leaders — they’re motivators, chefs, first responders, and sometimes magicians. With deep knowledge of the terrain and genuine care for your experience, they ensure that every day on the trail is both safe and memorable.
Crafting the perfect trek isn’t easy — but we’ve mastered the art. Each Trekkaro itinerary is refined to strike the ideal balance between activity, rest, flexibility, and discovery. We handpick our stay locations for comfort and character, ensuring a unique experience each night.

This is not a vacation — it's a transformational journey. Embrace it with a spirit of curiosity, resilience, and flexibility. Whether it’s a cold night, a steep climb, or a sudden change in weather — your attitude defines your adventure.
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a basic level of fitness will enhance your trek. We’re here to help you choose the right trek and get prepared, physically and mentally. A little prep goes a long way toward making your trek enjoyable and safe.

At Trekkaro, we redefine the trekking experience with our Free Trekking Gear (FTG) initiative — a game-changer in the adventure travel industry. We equip our trekkers with top-tier trekking gear at zero additional cost, including premium Decathlon products like:
• Proper route safety
• Emergency handling
• Support in difficult sections like icy slopes or narrow ridgelines
With Trekkaro, you’re always in safe and experienced hands — so you can focus on what truly matters: the adventure of a lifetime.
